Icebreakers
They don't have the best reputation, do they? I'm talking about the low cost / free ones that many trainers run at the start of a workshop to loosen people up.

How do you make sure that people enjoy them and they're not too uncomfortable for people? Any tips?

I never use them. They always seem gimmicky and clichéd to me.

I think there's a thin line between a well delivered icebreaker than does its job and the participants enjoy and a badly delivered one that feels corny and unnecessary. It would be interesting to explore the difference.
